Bongo Flava, another word for Tanzanian music is an authentic and artistic genre that is most dominant in the country and East Africa music scene.
We have curated a playlist of some of the best Tanzanian songs of 2020 featuring popular artists like Diamond Platnumz, Zuchu, and Rayvanny.
1. Zuchu – Wana
Zuhura Kopa, better known by her stage name Zuchu, is a Tanzanian musician, songwriter, and recording artist signed under WCB Wasafi Records label headed by Diamond Platnumz. Zuchu is best known for this song “Wana”, which introduced her to the world of music. She made her entrance into the music industry in April 2020 and so far has one EP Album.
2. Rayvanny – Ex Boyfriend
Raymond Shaban Mwakyusa better known by his stage name Rayvanny, is a Tanzanian musician, songwriter, and recording artist also signed under WCB Wasafi Records label headed by Diamond Platnumz. Rayvanny is best known for his song “Kwetu”, which introduced him to the music world.
3. Aslay – Mateka
Aslay Isihaka Nassoro known as Dogo Aslay is a Tanzanian music artist. He became well known in 2011 after releasing his Nakusemea tablet which he released under Big Fella. Earlier, he released another song called Niwe Nawe featuring Temba. He has later released several more songs including this – Mateka.
4. Darassa Feat. Sho Madjozi – I Like It
Shariff Thabee aka Darassa is CEO of Classic Music Group. He features popular South African rapper and singer, Sho Madjozi, on this one. Some of his most popular songs include Sikati Tamaa, Kama Utanipenda, Too Much, and Hasara Roho, which are already popular in Kigali.
5. Alikiba – DODO
Ali Saleh Kiba, is a Tanzanian singer-songwriter, and footballer. He is the owner of Kings Music label. In 2017 he became the director of Rockstar4000. Ali’s debut album and hit single ‘Cinderella’ became the biggest selling record in East Africa in 2008. He is best known for his hit songs Mwana, “Aje”, “Chekecha Cheketua” “Cinderella”, “Nakshi Mrembo”, “Usiniseme,” “Dushelele”, “Single Boy with Lady Jaydee”, “Mapenzi”, “Yana Run Dunia”, and “Macmuga”, and for his collaboration with R. Kelly and other African musicians on the One8 project.
6. Diamond Platnumz – Jeje
Nasibu Abdul Juma Issack popularly known by his stage name Diamond Platnumz, is a Tanzanian Bongo Flava recording artist, actor, dancer, philanthropist, and businessman from Tandale, Dar es Salaam. He is the founder and CEO of WCB Wasafi Record Label. He has had several hit songs including “Number One” featuring Nigerian artist Davido. Diamond won numerous awards at Channel O, MTV Awards, Soundcity, Kilimanjaro Music Awards, Headies, Afrima, Afrimma, Kora, AEA, the HiPipo Music Awards and more.
