Afro Rhythms: 10 Afro-fusion sounds you should add to your Week’s Playlist

Enjoy the fusion of Afro sounds with Dancehall, Reggae, and Bashment music from your fave artists.

1. Blessed (Wizkid ft. Damian Marley)

This is one of the songs topping Wizkid’s MIL album. Reggae veteran Damian Marley gave the song a unique sound – a mix of contemporary Afrobeats and Dance Hall.

2. Oh My Gawd (Mr Eazi and Major Lazer ft. Nicki Minaj and K4mo)

Nigerian Mr. Eazi links up with the Jamaican-American music trio, Major Lazer, featuring Nicki Minaj, and U.K. singer K4MO. The track is a booming groove with pulsing vibes perfect for a wild house party. “Oh My Gawd” is expected to be on Mr. Eazi’s upcoming EP, Something Else.

3. Nobody (Hausa Remix)

DJ Neptune’s Nobody has so far been stretched in different remixes and remakes. This is a Hausa Remix featuring Nigerian Afropop artist, Namenj.

Another Afro-fusion worth your playlist is this pop single from AG Baby‘s album, “Afro Pop, Vol. 1 earlier released in August. The 10-track album also featured Trinidadian singer, Nailah Blackman among other artists.

5. Gal Policy (Remix) (Kranium ft. Tiwa Savage)

Anytime you see a Nigeria and Jamaica collaboration, you’ve got to love it. June this year, Nigerian Tiwa Savage linked up with famous Jamaican dancehall artist Kranium.

6. Damages – Tems

Fast-rising Alte singer, Tems on this one. “Damages” is a song for young girls who got played loving boys in their early life. Tems is shaping alternative music in Nigeria, promoting the culture and conversations around it.

7. Kini Issue – Runtown

“Kini Issue’ is a mid-tempo love track from the Award-winning. Nigerian artist Runtown.

8. Hopeless Romantic (Remix) – Tomi Thomas ft. Stylo G

Nigerian Afropop artist Tomi Thomas features Jamaican–English reggae fusion recording artist Stylo G in his song “Hopeless Romantic.” Tomi Thomas is recognized as a pioneer of new sounds coming from Lagos. He released his debut EP, Patience, in 2014. Stylo G is known for his three hit singles “My Yout”, “Call Mi a Leader,” and “Soundbwoy.”

9. Pree We (Darkovibes feat. Humble Dis)

Paul Nii Amu Andrew Darko, known as Darkovibes, is a Ghanaian music artiste and fashionista. His music blends highlife, hip hop, and rap. He features Dancehall artiste Humble Dis on this single he titled “Pree We.”

10. Everything Nice (Headie One feat. Haile)
