Nigerian reggae-dancehall-Afropop act, Patoranking has recently unveiled ‘THREE,’ his third studio album.
In February, Patoranking gifted us a #relationshipgoals favourite, ‘I’m In Love.’ Next time we saw him in July, there was ‘Abule’ – a hit single off his latest album, ‘Three,’ which was released on August 28.
The 12-track album sees Patoranking exploring themes around love, life, and happiness. He features Nigerian singer Flavour, Kenyan afro-pop band Sauti Sol, Nigerian superstar Tiwa Savage, and Ghanaian musical artist King Promise, each bringing their distinctive sound.
‘Three’ is a follow-up to Patoranking’s second album: ‘Wilmer‘ and debut album, ‘God Over Everything (GOE)‘. And, by all standards, this is a phenomenal add-on to his discography of hits.
Patoranking is indisputably one of Africa’s most multifaceted musical artists. An international reggae star whose dancehall anthems have reverberated from Nigeria to Jamaica.
Now, let’s take a stroll down his stunning record of hits.
There was: ‘Girlie O,’ ‘My Woman, My Everything,’ ‘No Kissing,’ and ‘Love You Die,’ ‘Alubarika,’ ‘This Kind Love,’ ‘Suh Different,’ ‘Confirm,’ and ‘Available.’ The list is endless. Patoranking is a force across the continent and we don’t talk about it enough.
Pato, as we call him, is also a champion for Africa’s development. Recently, he partnered with the African Leadership University (ALU) to launch the ALU Patoranking Scholarship. With this, he provides 10 scholarships for students from all over Africa to attend the university.
His influence continues to grow beyond Africa’s shores. He was on the Forbes Africa 30 under 30 list for 2020. He is also on the latest remake of Bob Marley’s iconic One Love song in partnership with UNICEF and the Marley family, to raise COVID-19 funds. Not to mention that tour with American hip-hop/soul icon, Lauryn Hill in 2018.
Three, for perfection
In Pato’s words, ‘Three is a strong number. Good things come in threes. In making the album, I tried to look at love, life, and happiness. If you are listening to any of the tracks, even if it is a dance track, I want you to feel love.”
From “Odo Bra” with Ghanaian King Promise, “Whine It” with Kenya’s Sauti Sol, to “Matter” with Tiwa Savage, you just have to love the musical diversity on this album. We got treated to classic Pato with the heavy reggae on “Lion in the Jungle” too!
For the third time in his stellar history, Patoranking has done another good thing. This album is a mood-lifting, feel-good, and party-ready blend of sounds. We love to see it!
