The beautiful, star-studded visual, directed by Nigerian-British artist and director, Jenn Nkiru, features Wizkid, Saint JHN, Blue Ivy Carter, Adut Akech, Naomi Campbell, Lupita Nyong’o and more.

“Brown Skin Girl” is one of the most powerful songs from 2019, a reaffirmation of self-worth for Black women.

“Oh, have you looked in the mirror lately?/ Wish you could trade eyes with me ’cause/ There’s complexities in complexion/ But your skin, it glows like diamonds/ Pigment like the earth, you be giving birth/ To everything alive, baby, know your worth”

From Wizkid’s exceptional lead verse, the visuals, to Blue Ivy’s closing, echoing her mom’s lyrics, the song is pure art and a reverence of the ideals of Black identity, heritage, and beauty.

“It was so important to me in ‘Brown Skin Girl’ that we represented all different shades of brown. I wanted every character to be shot in a regal light. Jenn Nkiru came up with the Black debutantes. It was important that we’re all in this together and we’re all celebrating each other,”  says Beyoncé.
