To be honest, we’ve all been there. You’re scrolling your Instagram, and an image of Baskin-Robbins Made with Snickers Sundae pops up. You become suddenly desperate for its creamy frosting deliciousness.

Your logic probably tells you to chill on that momentary feeling but when a craving for something sweet hits, it usually feels like your willpower has bolted out of you!

Next time a blinding desire for junk food hits, outsmart it with one of these 8 simple tactics.

1. Go for a Walk

Try to leave whatever you are doing and take a stroll. You could also get on a treadmill for some minutes. This short exercise will get your mind off that momentary craving and generally help to regulate your food intake.

2. Play a Video Game

Fortnite or Play Station might have their use here. The visuals from games tend to blur out that of the food that you just craved. The logic here is “out of sight, out of mind.”

3. Drink Ginger Tea

Ginger is a palate cleanser that would stop that lingering urge for something sweet. Try throwing some ginger, perhaps with lemon slices, into hot water.

4. Take a Break

Sometimes the craving could be caused by stress or boredom. Change your scenery. Do something different. Wash the dishes, call your mom, occupy yourself with some mindless task, and check if the craving persists.

5. Chew Gum

Get a sugar-free gum. People who chew gums would know this. Apart from the energetic feeling you get, you notice you have decreased feelings of hunger, not to mention of any snack or sugar cravings.

6. Drink a Glass of Water

We often confuse thirst for hunger and desire food when we are dehydrated. Try to down 1, maybe 2 glasses of water.

7. Snack on Protein and Fiber Instead

Naturally, foods with fiber and protein are filling. They take a while to digest in the system, hence stay in you longer. The thought of eating again sort of feels powerless.

8. Think About the Future

This may sound strange but taking your mind off the moment can help you make healthier choices.

Which of these will you start with to crush those cravings?
