Flavour x Phyno: Chop Life

It’s another link-up with Eastern Kings where Talented Nigerian Highlife singer, Flavour and rapper Phyno return with: “Chop Life.”

Produced by the popular Nigerian record producer, Masterkraft, this song is inspired by the popular Nigerian lingo: ‘Chop life’ which simply means Enjoyment.  Thus, It asserts that life should be lived fully and we should have fun while we still can.

Chinedu Okoli, 36, popularly known by his stage name Flavour, began his musical career as a drummer in Enugu State, Nigeria.

In 2005, he released his eponymous debut album N’abania. 2010 came with his second studio album, Uplifted – supported by the singles Nwa Baby (Ashawo Remix),  Adamma, and Oyi Remix. 

 

However, ‘Nwa Baby’ is the track that took Flavour across the continent and into the global scene. He is famous for his exploration of the Igbo language in Hip-hop and High-life genres.

Flavour has since released more albums after ‘Uplifted’ including, ‘Blessed’ (2012), ‘Thankful’ (2014), ‘Ijele the Traveler’ (2017), and ‘Divine’ (2018). Among several awards, he won the Best Traditional Artist at the 2014 African Muzik Magazine Awards.

Speaking of Phyno, Chibuzor Nelson Azubuike, (real name) 33, started his music career as a producer in 2003. He is known for redefining the rap scene with his use of the Igbo language.

His debut studio album: ‘No Guts No Glory’ was released in 2014. Next was ‘2 Kings’, a collaborative studio album with Nigerian hip hop artist, Olamide in 2015. Then, he gave us ‘The Playmaker’ (2016) and ‘Deal With It’, his latest in 2019.

 

Amongst others, Phyno’s hit single ‘Fada Fada’ won The Headies Award for Song of the Year in 2016.

What is constantly inspiring about the two artistes is their unreserved appreciation for the Igbo language and culture. They make great music that showcases the principal language of South-Eastern Nigeria beyond the African continent.
