Now Our Watch Is Ended.
The wait is over. Wizkid has finally released his long-awaited fourth studio album “Made In Lagos.”
It has been a long journey (3 years since the last album, Sounds From The Other Side) with several date changes that left fans wondering if it would ever be released.
‘Made in Lagos’ was last scheduled for release on October 15, but WizKid delayed it again because of the police brutality protests in Nigeria.
“It has been beautiful to see Nigerians around the world coming together to protest against police brutality. Unity is key. The youth of Nigeria need our collective voices to continue to shine a spotlight to what is happening inside the country. I want to play my part in this and in the movement for a better Nigeria, a better place to live for ourselves, our families—our communities. We will get through this together. Together we move. #endSARS.”
The 14-track album features Burna Boy, Skepta, Ella Mai, H.E.R., Damian Marley, Tay Iwar, Projexx, Tems, and Terri. However, Wizkid had earlier dropped two lead singles off the album – ‘Smile ‘ and ‘No Stress, which currently have massive streams on various platforms.
‘Made In Lagos’ is not only for Lagosians but for Wizkid’s vast global fanbase. He features international artists on some of the tracks; Blessed (ft Damian Marley), Smile (ft HER), Longtime (ft Skepta), Piece of Me (ft Ella Mai), and True Love (with Projexx).
It is also noteworthy that Wizkid changed the album art cover. The initial cover had an abstract design capturing iconic landmarks in Lagos. Now, all we see his portrait in a superstar-fit fashionable outfit. Perhaps the current state of things in the country tilted him in a new direction.
Afrobeats continues to take the global music scene head-on, and in ‘Made In Lagos’, Wizkid wants the world to remember where it all started and where it’s going.
