“Love Ex Machina (LXM) means love to the rescue and that is my entire story. LXM is a celebration of love in its different forms and I can’t wait for you all to experience it with me.”
– Sir Dauda.
On the 11th of September, Sir Dauda (nickname: last born of the gods) released his debut project, Love Ex Machina.
Since his entry into the Nigerian music scene, Sir Dauda has been releasing singles and collaborating with artists and bands like Aramide, LadiPoe, Falz, Adekunle Gold, Show Dem Camp, among others. His very first single, Kalakuta, was inspired by the late Fela Anikulapo-Kuti who, he revealed, appeared to him in a dream asking him to introduce Africa to his sound. This single acquainted us with what Sir Dauda represents: from his lyrical content to his unique sound. Over the years, his music has further proven that he has crafted an entire niche for himself and is ready to take us through a world very unlike what we know. Love Ex Machina is his biggest project since 2016.
Love Ex Machina is a gospel, and the message is Love
Oluwatobiloba Dawodu (real name) calls his genre ‘Jungle Funk.’ He says, “It is a representation of where I am from, a composite of all things that make who I am, the African sounds, and the African stories.”
The 5-track EP explores love in different stages and entities. It becomes immediately apparent in ‘Ain’t Nobody‘ which he opens with. The lyrics are sampled from Dean Martin’s ‘You’re Nobody Till Somebody Loves You,’ which asserts that nobody truly lives until they’ve been loved thoroughly. Also in ‘Woman,’ where he features Artiste Simi, in an immersive sound. Here, he and Simi unite in a harmony that will turn a pessimist into a believer.
He finishes with ‘Landlord,’ a bonus track, which was previously released in 2019.
Love Ex Machina is a vivid expression of Sir Dauda’s art and automatically, an extension of himself. It feels as though you are in a trance for 17 minutes, immersed in the beauty of this man’s creation.
The EP was released under his new record label, BAHD Guys Entertainment, helmed by artiste Folarin Falana (Falz The Bahd Guy). It also features GoodGirl LA in Logba Logba. It was mixed, mastered and produced by top-tier acts like Focus Ramon, Chillz, Willis and Sizzle Pro.
