Florence Ifeoluwa Otedola popularly known as DJ Cuppy recently released her highly-anticipated debut studio album – “Original Copy.”
The star-studded album features several high-profile artists like Fireboy DML, Rema, Ravanny, Stonebwoy, Ycee, Seyi Shay, Teni, Ms. Banks, Darkoo and Nonso Amadi. It also features her first single of 2020, ‘Jollof On The Jet’, which has charted in over 15 countries.
Other artists on the “neo-Afrobeats” album, as Cuppy calls it, are Wyclef Jean, Sir Shina Peters, and Julian Marley. Wyclef featured on the melodic “Wale,” while Julian Marley links up with the popular Nigerian Jùjú musician, Sir Shina Peters on the transcontinental song ‘54’.
The Apple Music Radio host, Cuppy, with her signature positive personality and hard work, has indeed taken a giant stride and risen through the ranks to be a global taste maker.
“I went back to my roots, where I am from; Epe (a small town in Lagos, Nigeria) and mixed with the locals, I visited my family’s farm and recorded lots of ambient and animal sounds. If you listen very carefully you can hear these in each track.”
“I am so proud that the album is now out. For me, it’s not about numbers and statistics and charts. It’s about the fact that I was able to focus and actually achieve my dream of having an album. So honestly, I’m already happy regardless of what happens. Nonetheless, I encourage everyone to join this journey and I hope they enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed making this album.”
