Wizkid won the Best Music Video for his feature on Beyoncé’s Brown Skin Girl which also featured Blue Ivy while Burna Boy won the Best Global Music Album with his Twice As Tall album.

The 63rd Grammy Awards held on Sunday, March 14, 2021, in the Los Angeles Convention Center with no audience but performers because of the pandemic.

The “Brown Skin Girl” video which brought Wizkid’s win was described by The Grammys as “a feast for the fashion-forward and a celebration of Black and brown female beauty everywhere” and Twice As Tall as “a masterclass in the vibe and hustle that have made Burna Boy an international musical force“.

Talking of being an international musical force, it was his 2019 African Giant album that made Burna Boy hit the international scene and earned him his first Grammys nomination.

Burna Boy was nominated in the same Best Global Music Album category in 2019 but lost to Angelique Kidjo at the awards in 2020 who nonetheless dedicated her win to him.

“Burna Boy is among those young artists that come from Africa that is changing the way our continent is perceived and the way that African music is the bedrock of all music.”

— Angelique Kidjo

This is yet again another win for Africa. We celebrate the endless wealth of creative talents birthed from the continent.
