Fresh sound out of Mavins, Ayra Starr, 19, releases her eponymous debut EP.
The 5-track EP is rich with unique sounds that have an instant vibey effect. Each track emits a distinct tune that proves nothing less of a talented singer. Well, aren’t Africans talented?
At first, I could have sworn she is an Alte/Soul artist. The first track “Away” premises on heartbreak, albeit in a therapeutic light. “Ija” has a similar flow to Tems’ “Try Me”. “DITR’s” has a trap-pop beat. “Sare” ends with a Yoruba symphony that gave me some eargasm. The last on the EP, “Memories” is a mid-tempo track but still makes you want to bop your head.
If the EP is anything to go by, I am optimistic Ayra is a Starr in the making.
She also just released the enthralling visuals for “Away” – directed by Kewa Oni.
