Alte Music Hotlist: 10 Songs You Should Add To Your Playlist

Alté is lingo for ‘alternative’. It means freedom of expression. Listen to some authentic sounds from Africa’s Alte music scene.

1. JUMPING SHIP (Amaarae feat. Cruel Santino & Kojey Radical)

“JUMPING SHIP” is a Baille Funk-sampling RnB cut that harkens back to the late 90s/early 2000s era. Ama Serwah Genfi (Amaarae) is a Ghanaian-American singer and songwriter known for her work around representation and gender in music. On this one, she features British musical artist Kojey Radical and Nigeria’s pop-indie/alternative artist Cruel Santino.

2. Free Mind – Tems

Fast-rising Nigerian alternate R&B singer, songwriter, and music producer, Temilade Openiyi (Tems) on this smashing hit single titled, “Free Mind.” a track off her debut EP – For Broken Ears.

3. Those Days – Tomi Agape

UK based Alte-singer and Afro-soul/fusion artist, Tomi Agape on this feel-good track from her recently released debut EP, ‘Never Gunna Be The Same.’ She is still quite new on the scene but has had interesting concert collaborations with huge African acts like Davido and Mr Eazi.

4. Mentally (PrettyboyDO feat. WANI)

Fast-rising, talented Nigerian singer, PrettyboyDO comes on this single titled “Mentally”. PrettyboyDO is also one of the distinctive new artists with original sounds in the continuously saturated music scene.

5. Down Low – Laime

Laime is also a Nigerian gem, part of the non-conformists of the Alte music sphere. This single is titled “Down Low“ and produced by Dami Rore.

6. Kno Me (Somadina feat. SGawd)

Somadina Onuoha is one of Nigeria’s Soul leading female artists. On this track, ‘Kno Me,’ she features a perfect complement, SGawd with her smooth punchlines.

7. Fuji 5000 – Odunsi (The Engine)

Here’s another fast-rising Nigerian Alte/RnB star Odunsi (The Engine). Fuji 5000 is somewhat a mix of Fuji and Trap Pop.

8. End Of The Wicked (Cruel Santino feat. Octavian)

Nigerian Alte singer-rapper Cruel Santino, formerly known as Santi, features French rapper Octavian on this lead single from his forthcoming sophomore album.

9. Dobale – MOJO & Black Beatz

Nigerian record producer, Black Beatz features Nigerian rapper MOJO. “Dobalè” looks like the perfect wooing song.

10. Black Card – Wavy The Creator ft Psycho YP

Nigerian singer and photographer, Jennifer Ejoke (Wavy the Creator) on this Electro-Soul track featuring Nigerian Hip-Hop artist and rapper, Psycho YP.
